Online Presentation

Female bird song is more common and widespread than is generally appreciated. In this presentation, Dr. Lauryn Benedict will provide an overview of female bird song prevalence and variety. She will discuss what we can learn by studying the songs of female birds, and invite participants to consider becoming community scientists to help advance the field of ornithology.

Dr. Lauryn Benedict has long been fascinated by the social lives of birds. She has spent the last 20+ years watching and researching birds to figure out how they use sounds to signal meaning and coordinate behaviors. Her recent work examines the evolution of song in both male and female songbirds. Lauryn holds a B.A. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. from the University of California Berkeley. She is a Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado, where she teaches about ornithology, animal behavior, and animal diversity.

The Zoom log-in will be sent by email to registered attendees. To register please click the following link: She sings too!. Free & open to the public!
