Waterfowl can be quite tricky yet exciting to photograph. Certain techniques–often highly specific to waterfowl behavior–can give wildlife photographers an edge when attempting to photograph these often skittish birds. In this workshop, Cameron will explain how to approach the challenge of waterfowl photography and how to create thoughtful, story-telling images. He will share descriptions and image examples highlighting various techniques to demonstrate how best to create a compelling waterfowl portfolio.
Cameron Darnell is a 19 year old wildlife photographer and birder specializing in bird photography. He lives outside of Washington, D.C., and will be attending Williams College in the fall of 2021. Cameron has been birding for as long as he can remember, and began photographing birds at the age of 12. He finds the creative aspect of bird photography thrilling and always strives for the most aesthetic image possible. In addition to his home state of Maryland, Cameron has photographed throughout the United States, including Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Florida, Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, and Alaska. Cameron has led birdwalks and conducted wildlife photography workshops for organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region, and was recently a guest on the Wildlife Photo Chat podcast. Cameron’s images have been honored by the National Audubon Society Photography Awards (Top 100), the Massachusetts Audubon Society Photography Contest (Winner, Youth Division), and the American Birding Association Young Birder of the Year Contest (Winner, Photography Module). In 2019, he was selected to attend The Cornell Lab of Ornithology Young Birders Event.
